I just got this letter in my inbox. I’m praying for David (the lovely man in this picture who sent it) and all those involved. I’m taken aback by how thoughtful David was to 1. Stop, and then 2. Notice this man’s scooter in the trunk, and that he had an MS sticker on it, and 3. That he had the wherewithal to know that connecting to the injured man may calm him down until EMS arrived.
David, I just write the blogs. I live them. I have something at stake. But you my friend, you don’t have MS, nothing at stake and you still read them. That’s incredibly selfless and considerate and kind. I am not, for a second, surprised that you stopped, while the other motorists kept going. God bless you buddy…praying that peace will replace the anxiety and adrenaline you are feeling now, and for all those involved in this accident. Your letter made me weep, in a good way. Thank you.

Thank you for your blogging and explanations to us about MS!
I was witness, and the only one who bothered to stop and assist two people in a head on collision this morning. (Disgusted no one else bothered to stop). Not to dwell on the accident, but both individuals were bloodied, the female driver was cut and although crying and hysterical, not badly injured.
The male individual was hollering in pain. I couldn't do anything for him as he was pinned beneath hand controls that were built into his car.
I did notice a motorized scooter on the trunk of his car, which had a sticker on it stating to the fact that I am an MS survivor (not sure exact quote). So I asked him if the scooter was his and he said yes because he had MS. He was yelling in pain, as I said, and trying to pull the hand control off himself . I entered the car and could not bend the hand controls off of him. I am not an EMT not had anything other than basic CPR sometime in my life. He was hollering about back and neck pain and I was trying to calm him down and get him to remain still...fearing neck injury...
I told him I know very little about MS other than what I had read on a friends blog...but I did believe that with MS you may have lesions on your spine and may already have a damaged spine....so please remain still until help arrives....he said he did have lesions and was surprised I knew anything about it....it was a very odd reaction, but seemed to calm him down....he said someone understands ...even of only a little... It took 20 minutes for Fire and Rescue to arrive ...and even though still in pain ...he stopped hollering and even asked me to step out of the vehicle and check on his scooter....aside from the battery being thrown off...the scooter was fine....in fact while waiting I gave him my business card (for witness purposes-accident was other driver's fault) and on back I wrote Ugly Like Me and told him to look up the blog....
EMS arrived and cut him out of the vehicle and took care of the other driver...I may never hear more from him or know how it all turned out ....BUT although I was shaken personally, just having something (I know VERY little ) to state to this stranger about MS...seemed to make a big difference to him in this situation.....
Before reading your articles and blogs I would have had NOTHING to even relate to this man in this situation....so thank you !!!
PS...I know I rambled, but I am still sitting in my car on side of road...need to go home and shower from their blood on my hands and clothes.....Still shaken.. But had to take time and write .....all I could think of was ....what was in the blogs...what can I offer or say to this man in this situation....and had to thank you....
I can't explain how his expression changed when I said anything with a little knowledge about what he goes thru with MS....that knowledge helped ME and him in that situation ....thought of you two the whole time and had to write and tell you and thank you.
